In the summer of 2009 I was honored to be crowned the Hancock County Fair Queen. All of the contestants involved had to give a speech on the topic of why someone should volunteer. Below is the speech I wrote and then below that is the final speech I gave at the end of my reign in 2010.
There are a lot of things that can impact a child growing up and for me it was 4-H. I joined 4-H in the 4th grade and was involved until I left for college. Joining the organization was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. It taught me discipline, responsibility, and goal-setting. I had an amazing experience being in 4-H and becoming the fair queen was the cherry on the cake.
